This term we are learning to be cybersmart, we had Mr Ramkalowan come into our class and teach us about making quality comments on our friends posts and on blogs. This was really interesting and a positive learning experience. 

Manaiakalani movies

Last week room 9 and the senior side of the school got the opportunity to go to the movies at Sylvia park to watch our Manaiakalani movies. We had a great time going on the bus and sitting in the comfy seats in the cinema. 

We have been working hard on our writing all year. This term we are doing report writing and information writing. This week we are working on movie reviews as part of our retelling abilities and building descriptive language to be better writers. Here is Sosaia's movie review, it is captivating reading!!

REMEMBER WHEN YOU ARE WRITING A REVIEW TO DESCRIBE THE WHO, WHAT, WHEN, WHERE, WHY?

What happened in the story: Benjamin was playing video games with a white, dirty, controller, until his mum came and told Benjamin madley, to go upstairs and clean his room. But he said, he already cleaned his room in the morning. But his mum said” Now, then he said” but mum, then his mum said” Now. Then he went upstairs and cleaned his, already cleaned up room. Then his mum swept the floor and saw Benjamin’s controller. Then she saw that the controller was dirty, so she sprayed it with H20(water), and then she got transferred from real life, to a game. Then she saw these small guys that had gold helmets. Then Benjamin came down stairs and saw his mum in the video game. Then she shouted” get me out of here”. Then a mop came out of nowhere and she fought those small guys to the death. Then she won and thought that she can get out of the game, but Benjamin said,” That was only the first level. Then he told mum that he can do a cheat. Then he did the cheat and mum went flying to the dragon level. Then she said,” That was awesome. Then the dragon came and pushed mum, which had mum had 1 in a half life. Then she got the mop and killed the dragon’s heart. Then she got transferred out of the game and huged Benjamin. Then she said.” you really did clean up your room, did you. He said” yes. Then mum got a controller and said,” Two player. The End.

Who were the characters in the movie, describe them (what did they look like): Benjamin had a video game controller on his shirt and it was blue on the outside, and the controller was lime, green. The mum had a pink top, blue jeans and black shoes.

What was the message of the movie? Work together as a team.

Room 9 has made a movie about Bullying and stamping it out as part of the Manaiakalani movies. Our movie shows how when you are bullied you have a bad day, and your bad day can effect others. When you have a good day you will pass your good mood on to others. Enjoy.

Halloween

Halloween 

Many of room 9 went trick or treating yesterday for Halloween, it sounds like they had lot's of fun, and got lot's of treat! Room 9 have written about their experiences on their individual blogs, there is some exciting reading!! 

this term we are learning to play basketball, the children are having so much fun learning new skills and having a go. Keep it up room 9, we just might see you in the NBA yet!!

THE WATER CYCLE

this term we are studying the planet for topic, we have started by learning about the water cycle, the children have been really excited about this and written about it on their personal blogs. We have done an experiment to show our own mini water cycles in a bag which are on display in the classroom too!

Room 9 made some lovely artwork in the sand pit today! They made a flower and a bird, great work guys!!

Room 9 has been busy making their class movie, we had so much fun that we made an extra movie about fractions, we have been working hard on learning our fractions this term, this little clip show just how hard we have been working!!

we had a duffy book assembly today and we were lucky enough to have Kanoa Llyod come and present the books. The whole school gets a book, and well done to those who were chosen to have their books presented on stage!!

Last week we had the life education van at school, we went and learnt about the respiratory system, digestive system and the circulatory system. We had heaps of fun and learnt a lot about how our bodies work!!

 
 

Room 9 have been very busy learning their routine for the end of term performance, keep practicing at home, below is the music so you can show your family at home!!

This term our sports focus is tennis. Room 9 are lucky to have Mr Campbell coaching them. We have had to lessons so far and the class are really getting into it! Well done room 9.

This term we have two new teachers joining the staff, Mr Yamasuki from Japan and Mr Beel who is taking over room 11. The kapa haka group welcomed them with a Powhiri.

This week we had Zircus circus come and visit the school and put on a little show to promote the circus. What a fantastic show it was! The three boys aged 9 from China did some amazing tricks. Everyone thought they were very talented.

NED IS COMING 

this friday we have a  VERY special assembly, NED is coming, there will be amazing tricks, Yoyo's and a lot of fun. Yoyo's will go on sale from next week 8/8 - 12/8/16 which you can buy at school.

last week we had Ronald McDonald himself come to school to give a special assembly about road safety. Everyone really enjoyed the assembly, and we learnt a new song about ho to be safe in the car and when walking to school!!

A special CONGRATULATIONS to Mele Pita who played in the KO chess competition today against other local schools and one some of her games, she even beat a teacher!! what a fantastic effort, well done Mele!

It's almost end of term, the children have worked really hard this term and have earned a break. Please remember parent teacher interviews tomorrow from 3.15pm - 6.30pm. Look forward to seeing you all there.also friday is the last day of term and we will be finishing at 2pm. 

As part of Maori language week and topic the children labelled the human skeleton and body parts in Te Reo Maori!! you can practice these at home with your children!

Its Maori language week, to celebrate our native language the children have been working on writing Maori myths and illustrating Maori gods. They have worked hard on their stories and these are on display in the hallway outside our room, come along and have a read, there are some great stories!

We have been working on our wishes and hopes for Matariki. The class had a discussion around what they want to hope and wish for, for their future and the coming year. These on display in the hall way by our classroom. The children have really thoughtful hopes and wishes.

Last week the senior school got to go to Te Oro. It was a great experience, the children joined in dance, technology and art activites and were also treated to an awesome performance put on by Sommerville special school. It was a great afternoon had by all.
